"Five of Coins" Framed Earth Pigment Painting

This original painting is from Earthbound Tarot, a 78-card deck I created using handmade earth pigments sourced across New Mexico. Each card in the deck was individually hand-painted using watercolors made from rocks and organic materials that I foraged myself.

About the Card:
A man and woman trudge through a relentless snowstorm, wounded and sick, both barely holding themselves upright. Above them float five distant planets—symbols of what they need but cannot quite reach. The image reflects a moment of scarcity and suffering, a portrait of life in survival mode. The Five of Coins speaks to the emotional and physical toll of not having enough—whether it’s resources, support, safety, or rest. When we are just trying to get by, our vision narrows and hope feels out of reach. Still, even in these desperate moments, it is vital to remember that we do not have to suffer in isolation. Hardship is real, but so is the possibility of receiving help.
